In most cases, a vision plan helps pay for routine exams and vision hardware when prescribed by an ophthalmologist, optometrist, or optician. The vision coverage you have depends on your medical plan and may not cover the total cost of eye-care services and supplies.

To learn about your vision benefits and coverage, sign in to your account. There, you’ll find your deductible information and what benefits you have remaining for the plan year. Or, you can call the Premera customer service at the number on the back of your Premera member ID card.

Find vision care

Find vision care

Use the Find Care tool to search for in-network vision providers near you. Then, schedule your next eye exam or get new hardware.

Pro tip: If you live outside of Washington state, tell your provider your vision coverage is through Blue Cross Blue Shield. Show your Premera member ID card at the time of your visit.

The in-network provider advantage

The in-network provider advantage

To keep your healthcare costs down, it’s important to see an in-network provider. In-network providers are contracted with Premera and can charge only what Premera allows them to charge. We call this the “allowed amount.”

On the other hand, if you see an out-of-network provider (they are not contracted with Premera), they are able to charge more than the “allowed amount” and you could be billed the difference. This means you could receive higher bills than expected.

Save money using in-network providers. Search your network providers.

Get cost estimates

Get estimates for all your vision care before your next visit. (For members only.) Sign in to your Premera account and select the Procedure costs tile on the Find a Doctor tool.

How to get reimbursed for vision hardware

It can be common to pay for vision hardware, (including glasses, contacts, lens replacements, and sunglasses) up front at the time of your service. Submit a vision claim to get reimbursed.

The amount you are reimbursed varies per plan. Check the Benefit Details page on your premera.com account.
